Released on 11 September 1995 through Food, The Great Escape is the album that gave Blur Country House, The Universal and Charmless Man, all produced by Stephen Street and recorded at Maison Rouge and Townhouse in London between January and May of that year. Damon Albarn's cast of characters, from Ernold Same to Mr Robinson, are drawn with a cartoonist's cruelty, while the Duke Strings Quartet and the Kick Horns give the whole thing a widescreen finish. Ken Livingstone narrates Ernold Same, which tells you most of what you need to know about the record's sense of humour.

This is an original 1995 UK pressing on Food, catalogue FOODLP 14 with Parlophone reference 7243 8 35235 1 1, and it is complete with the printed lyric and chord inner sleeve that many surviving copies have lost. Side B carries the album's locked groove ending, which is intentional rather than a fault. Second hand, inspected in hand, with wear consistent with age.
