Edge Sculpture: British Artistry You Can Actually Live With
Share
If you've never come across Edge Sculpture by Matt Buckley, prepare to rethink everything you assumed about contemporary sculpture. Designed and hand-finished at the artist's Shropshire studios, Edge Sculpture is a collection of bold, textured pieces that feel more like gallery art than giftware, yet sit perfectly at home on a sideboard, mantelpiece or hallway console. Crawford & Bond is proud to stock this distinctive British brand, and here's why collectors and interior lovers alike keep coming back for more.
From Clay to Conversation Piece
Every Edge Sculpture begins life as a raw clay original, shaped entirely by hand on a turntable. Matt Buckley trained under his stepfather Robert Harrop, the sculptor behind the beloved Doggie People and Country Companions ranges, and spent over three decades honing his craft at the family's Shropshire workshop. That heritage in figurine design runs deep, but Edge is something altogether different: dramatic, angular and deliberately raw.
Once the clay master is complete, moulds are cast and each piece is reproduced in a specially blended marble stone resin, then meticulously hand-painted by a small team of artists. The result is a sculpture with real weight, genuine texture and the kind of presence that stops people mid-sentence.
"Edge Sculpture has evolved significantly from its humble beginnings in my garden shed. I had the concept for bold and primeval pieces that had a soul and presence, with a very primitive and natural finish."
— Matt Buckley, Creator of Edge Sculpture
A Collection That Keeps Growing
The range spans wildlife busts and full figures, from big cats, gorillas and elephants to British hares, bulldogs and birds of prey, alongside mythical creatures like dragons and fantasy characters. The Edge Sculpture collection at Crawford & Bond includes pieces in multiple colourways, so you can find something that works with your space rather than against it.
Recent additions include new primate pieces and the Miniatures range, which delivers all the detail and character of the full-size sculptures in a more compact format, ideal for shelving, desks or as a first piece for someone just discovering the brand.
Who Are They For?
Edge Sculpture sits in a sweet spot that few brands manage: collectible enough for serious figurine enthusiasts, design-forward enough for someone who'd never normally look twice at a figurine collection. They make exceptional gifts for animal lovers, art enthusiasts and anyone with a taste for interiors that actually say something.
A tiger bust for a milestone birthday. A pair of horse sculptures flanking a fireplace. A baby gorilla for the person who already has everything. These aren't pieces that get tucked away in a cabinet, they're designed to be seen.
Made in Britain, Built to Last
In a market flooded with mass-produced imports, Edge Sculpture stands apart. Every piece is designed, moulded and finished in the UK, and the marble stone resin construction means they're hefty enough to feel substantial without being fragile. They arrive in branded gift packaging, ready to present.
